Kelley Basey
Assistant District Attorney
Kelly Basey was born and raised in Oklahoma City. She graduated from OSU with a degree in journalism and Spanish. She then moved to Madrid, Spain to teach international business English for two years. Upon return, she attended and graduated law school with honors from the University of Oklahoma. She immediately began her service at the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s office. In 1998 she married and they had two children. While at the District Attorney’s office she initiated the start of the Mental Health Court which at the time was the 6th such court in the nation. From 2002 to 2006 she led the drug court into a new era of expansion while guiding the principles and policies of law enforcement. In 2006 she retired from the District Attorney’s office and joined the premier immigration firm in Oklahoma which later became Winningham, Stein and Basey. She was appointed as the attorney for the Mexican Consulate. She was honored to be allowed to be a Catholic jail minister in Oklahoma County jail from 2015 to 2019. In 2019 she returned to the Oklahoma District Attorney’s office to rejoin the expanded diversion programs in Oklahoma County. She enjoys volunteering in the community, traveling, and spending time with her husband, children, and extended family.
